Wutan Seminar and Family Day

INTRODUCTION

Spend time with other Wutan teachers and students and their families.

The venue is a three acre garden in Ash Green, Hampshire.

Bring the family, there is plenty of room for group activities or just sit and watch.

Derek Kent will conduct a two hour session in the morning:

  • Ba Gua palms and application
  • Bokken and Pole set
  • Push Hands

For the rest of the day, feel free to organise yourself into groups to practice techniques or drills. There is plenty of space for training with staff and bokken.

If you wish to come the previous Saturday evening and camp overnight that’s possible.

Things you might want to bring

  • Cool box for your drinks & food
  • Knife, fork, spoon, plate & cup
  • Camp chair (for comfort, but not essential as we do have stray bales around the camp fire and some picnic tables with benches)
  • Closed toe shoes (there are nettles, brambles etc.)
  • Something warm to wear in case the temperatures drop or the wind picks up

OUR DOGS

We have three loutish lurchers who are awesome with people but can be tricky with other dogs.

They have zero road sense and it is critical that they are not allowed out on the road.

Please make sure the gate is closed at all times.

SAFETY

Risks

  • There may be fires and highly combustible fuels (petrol, gas etc.)
  • Uneven ground
  • No lighting after dark fall…
  • Brambles, stinging nettles
  • Low hanging branches – watch your head
  • Biting insects

...and all the usual hazards you might encounter when camping.

We also have some derelict outbuildings (and a well), which we definitely do NOT recommend allowing children play around.

For your protection

  • A bucket of water will be located near the fire
  • We have a basic first aid and ‘cuts’ kit (plasters)

Lastly – we ask that everyone takes responsibility for themselves and their kids – goes without saying really.

You agree that you enjoy the day at your own risk.

INFORMATION FOR CAMPERS

Facilities

Camp Kitchen

We have a ‘kitchen’ area under a shelter with space for an open fire. We also have a large double burner gas stove for heating up food or boiling water for drinks.

There will be fresh water, a kettle so you can make yourself tea and there are facilities so you can wash your hands.

We would appreciate your support in collecting firewood and topping up fresh water containers.

Toilets & Shower

In the house, off the utility room.

Alternatively, feel free to ‘nitrogenate’ the trees and bushes… they will be very grateful for the “rainfall” in this heat..

Useful Kit

  • Towel – if you fancy a morning shower
  • Head torch – for nocturnal trips to the loo
  • Wellies – even if it does not rain, the grass will get dewy in the morning and evenings
  • Warm clothes and hat – for sitting around the fire in the evening
  • Hoodies – great for sleeping in instead of pyjamas
  • Insect repellent – we do have the odd flying critter
  • Blankets for sitting around fire etc.
  • Ear plugs – for snoring neighbours
  • Anything else you fancy to make your stay more cosy

Spare Gear

We have some spare camping kit; if you forget something, just ask.
